It Always Begins In The Same Way, Part 2 …The Truth Is The Truth Only When I Say It Is The Truth.

June 12, 2009

As I said in Part 1 of this series of blogs, I was contemplating the set-up of my latest blog, dedicated to the movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, a documentary by Ben Stein. I decided to add a few pictures to accompany the boring text…then I even decided to add a clip of the movie itself. So off to YouTube I went to find some movie scenes to embed in my blog.
That’s where I discovered something quite interesting…and disturbing.
Along with clips of the movie Expelled and the various promotional trailers that preceded its release, there were a series of reviews submitted by various bloggers. Some were slickly packaged productions, with various graphics & pictures, and accompanying music. Others were bare bones and cheaply made, cobbled together on the fly; sometimes the very set was nothing more than the so-called reviewer’s living room or bedroom. Clearly they were created by a single person operating the camera itself as well as performing in front of the camera. Whatever the quality of the video, the end product…the reviewer’s conclusion about the documentary…was pretty much the same:

-The movie was awful.
-Ben Stein is stupid (or a moron, or a retard, or a fool, or whatever…).
-The scientists and doctors and journalists and university professors (and former university professors!) interviewed by Stein for the movie, who lost their jobs or had their reputations ruined as a result of their beliefs in or theories on Intelligent Design, were liars.
-Anybody who has anything even remotely favorable to say about Intelligent Design is a Bible-thumping, Creationist-advocating idiot.

It would take far too long to go into exacting detail about the so-called counterpoints raised by these so-called reviewers. Some of them raised valid arguments, and they should be commended for their acumen. However, too many of them constantly parsed words in order to “de-bunk” Stein’s assertions in the movie. One recurring reference is the use of the term “Social Darwinism”. They insist that Hitler did not advocate Darwinism but Social Darwinism….as if this middling point somehow proves that Expelled is nothing more than a two-hour lie or that it somehow exonerates those who embrace evolution from being connected to any Nazi-related history.
Interesting how a mere parsing of words can somehow render the entire discussion irrelevant.
After all, did anybody ever really figure out what the definition of “is” really is?

Then there are those who still insist that Hitler’s Nazi party was a Christian organization. They pulled out the same tired photos of Hitler shaking hands with Catholic Archbishops in 1933 or showing a photo of Hitler giving his infamous salute in 1934 with the “Church Of Our Lady” in the background…far, far in the background.

Wow…Hitler and a church in the same photo. There’s all the proof you need…right?

Interesting how those on the Left continue to foist the ideas that Nazis were Christians…and continue to justify those claims by inundating us with images of Hitler meeting with Vatican bishops, Hitler leaving a church, Hitler’s head bowed in prayer, etc…
And they also show some of Hitler’s speeches where he either praised Christians in some way or talked about Hitler’s controversial Reichskonkordat with The Holy See and Germany in 1933.

All the time these same people are completely ignoring the fact that, at the same time, Hitler’s Nazi Party was being praised by the likes of so-called intellectuals of higher education, many in the media, and many of those who served in FDR’s Administration…including Franklin D. Roosevelt’s key advisor Rexford Tugwell and Eleanor Roosevelt’s close confidante Lorena Hickok. Even Roosevelt himself publicly expressed on many occasions throughout the 30’s that he had the highest admiration for Italy’s Benito Mussolini and his Fascisti Government…one of Hitler’s biggest Axis Powers allies.
And it would take far too long to list the many men and women in Hollywood who were absolutely ga-ga over the concept of Socialism, Fascism, Communism, and the end of Capitalism….remember, in the 20’s and 30’s the term “Dictator” did not have the negative connotation it now carries. In fact, many of those who advocated Socialism in America also advocated turning the Roosevelt Administration into a dictatorship “…for the greater good“. This enamoration…this alliance…with Hitler’s Nazi ideals far, FAR eclipses any comparison to the Catholic Church merely having a few photo ops with a man who was regarded by the Left in the 20’s and 30’s the same way that the Left regard Fidel Castro, Che Guevarra, and Hugo Chavez today.

Funny how information like that is never held against them to the same extent?

Which leads to one of the most glaring, most troubling aspect of many of these so-called reviewers. In Expelled there were several university professors (and a journalist) who lost their jobs or their tenure as a result of comments they made, either verbal or in print, about Intelligent Design. They hardly praised Intelligent Design but merely made a reference to it as a subject either deserving a modicum of respect or deserving consideration as a viable possibility to the origin of life…at least until science can provide evidence that would allow for a legitimate scientific dismissal of Intelligent Design as a possibility. Included in the documentary are excerpts from their various notices of reprimand or dismissal. There even are several attempts to discuss such dismissals with those who either took part in the job terminations or advocated such actions (it’s rather funny to watch them try to downplay their actions or even get caught in their own P.R. lie).
This is shown as an example of how those who dare to say anything even remotely respectful about Intelligent Design are attacked or ostracized by the scientific and academic community for their “transgressions”.
Yet, how do the reviewers de-bunk this evidence?
They don’t.
They don’t even try.
They just say, in essence, “I think they’re lying.”
That’s it.
End of discussion.

The entire subject is casually dismissed with a blithe “I simply don’t believe that’s true“.
Images of their notices of dismissal appearing on screen….their own testimonies…even interviews with those who fired them, squirming uncomfortably when confronted with excerpts of their own personal attacks on the accused…right there on screen…yet the reviewers simply wave their hands indifferently and, voila!, the evidence is disregarded.

How convenient, to be able to utterly ignore any evidence that would fly in the faces of the reviewer’s obvious biases.

This is probably the most disturbing evidence of the type of psychological mindset of those on the Left: if they so choose, they can deny the validity of any evidence that would cast any shadow of doubt upon the absolute perfection of their Leftist orthodoxy.
Such as the mountains of evidence proving that Darwinism, social or otherwise, played a major role in the Eugenics Movement. A movement which resulted in…among other things…Hitler’s Final Solution, the forced sterilization of over 50 thousand US citizens, and Margaret Sanger’s specialized eugenics organization designed to control the birth rate of what she regarded as “human weeds“…specifically the poor, the uneducated, the working class, blacks, Jews, and the physically & mentally disabled, among others…an organization which today is still called Planned Parenthood.

The concept of determining the validity of the truth as it relates to the opinions you hold or the agenda you advocate…and the willingness and ease at which said truths can be so easily rendered irrelevant…is simply staggering to behold. But then, isn’t that precisely what Dr. Richard Weikart was discussing in Expelled when he sat with Ben Stein at Dachau? That an entire culture or class of people, and their right to even exist on Earth, can be declared moot…on a mere Collective whim?

The poignant scenes in Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, where Ben Stein pays a visit to Hadamar “Hospital” Memorial in Germany and makes reference to the philosophy of Thomas Malthus (another philosopher embraced by Hitler and The Left back then), best symbolize what I’m referring to. I won’t waste time going into detail here…just watch the movie. And when you come to that particular part of the documentary, think of the following people: Terry Schiavo, Trig Palin, and Steven Hawking.

So why does this concern me so, you ask?
The main title of my blog is It Always Begins In The Same Way. This is an old German saying…and it is a quote made by Dr David Berlinsky, one of the professors who agreed to be interviewed by Ben Stein for the movie. Berlinsky made the comment when he referred to the scientific community, the political Left, and the Educational Elite embracing Darwinism to the near-Fascist….no, nothing “near” about it…to the Fascist level that they currently do. He also used the phrase to punctuate what he feared was coming as a result of them taking an extremist approach to the long-overdue scientific scrutiny of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution.
You see…such a thing has happened before.
Nearly a century ago.
Do you know what happened as a result?
Just be warned…when I tell you, I’ll be invoking Godwin’s Law.

To be continued…

Anybody who has anything even remotely favorable to say about Intelligent Design is a Bible-thumping, Creationist-advocating idiot.

Most of them are Bible thumpers, but all of them have one thing in common, they’re scientifically illiterate.

They hardly praised Intelligent Design but merely made a reference to it as a subject either deserving a modicum of respect or deserving consideration as a viable possibility to the origin of life…at least until science can provide evidence that would allow for a legitimate scientific dismissal of Intelligent Design as a possibility.

Translation: They hardly praised MAGIC but merely made a reference to it as a subject either deserving a modicum of respect or deserving consideration as a viable possibility to the origin of life…at least until science can provide evidence that would allow for a legitimate scientific dismissal of MAGIC as a possibility.

When you use the code words “intelligent design” you’re being dishonest. It’s really nothing more than a childish belief in magic, and that’s what you would call it if you were honest. Calling magic “intelligent design” does not make it any less childish.

I’ve been studying evolutionary biology for several years. How long have you been studying it? Or do you just watch Christian propaganda movies?
